Westminster, Orange County
Westminster was founded in 1870 as a Presbyterian temperance colony and named for the Westminster Assembly. In 1947 a lawsuit brought by local families, Mendez v. Westminster, ended the segregation of Mexican American children in California public schools, seven years before the Supreme Court ruled on the issue nationally. A park and monument in the city honor the families.
